Interested in seeing what the town has to offer? Keep on reading for our top event picks!
The pancake race is always so much fun
The pancake race is a yearly staple in many people in Guildford’s calendars, and it’s always so much fun! Businesses, individuals, and local schools all compete against each other in various pancake races. They compete for great prizes donated by local businesses. What’s not to love? Freshly cooked pancakes are also usually on offer, so you can grab a tasty snack at the same time. Furthermore, there’s often plenty of local press coverage. So, it’s also great for getting your business out there a bit more if you enter, especially if you win. So, if you have a competitive streak, this is definitely one event that you don’t want to miss.
The race is usually put on by Charlotteville Jubilee Trust, so the money raised goes to benefit the community in Guildford too! When it comes to Guildford town centre events, this is definitely one of our favourites and we’re already looking forward to 2021’s event!
Guildford on Sea is a yearly Guildford town centre event for the whole family
Every year, Experience Guildford put on fun Guildford town centre events, including Guildford on Sea. While Guildford is an amazing place to live and work, we’re unfortunately not by the sea- it’s the one thing the town is missing! So, this event aims to bring the sea to us. Usually, the banks of the picturesque River Wey are transformed into a seaside scene, with plenty of activities for families to get involved in. However, due to Covid-19, 2020’s event went virtual. Instead, people could enjoy the fun of the seaside from their own homes and gardens!
This event is perfect for families, and many get involved in it every year! There are plenty of fun activities to get involved with, including crafts, shows, and entertainers. This is definitely one to look out for next year! It provides a great way to spend a summer’s day, and hopefully in 2021 it will return to the river banks.
Don’t miss the Christmas Fair at the Cathedral!
Christmas in Guildford is a big event, and there are always plenty of things for people of all ages to do! Indeed, there are plenty of things going on every year at the Cathedral to do with the festive period. One of the most popular ones is the annual Christmas fair. It’s hosted on November 20th and 21st this year (2020), in a socially-distanced and Covid-safe manner. At the fair, you can browse from a huge range of stalls, selling everything from baked goods and liqueurs to bespoke Christmas gifts and decorations.
Everyone loves a good Christmas fair, and you definitely don’t want to miss out on this one! Even better, entry is very reasonable at £2 per person. It’s the perfect event to kickstart the festive season and really absorb all of that Christmas cheer, so we’d really recommend going along if you can.
Don’t miss the Guildford Book Festival
This is another Guildford town centre event that is usually held in person, but this year is trialling Covid-safe virtual events! The festival attracts a huge variety of renowned authors, such as Joanna Trollope, Ann Cleeves, and Peter James. So, if you love all things books and reading, this is the event for you! Attendees can hear from a variety of talks, attend workshops, and learn more about the literary scene. This year it is virtual, from the 4th to the 11th October 2020.
The Farmer’s Market is a staple of Guildford town centre events
This is a Guildford town centre event that’s held a lot more regularly than annually! It’s the perfect place to enjoy the fresh air and browse plenty of produce from local farmers and other creators. There’s something here to suit all tastes who love fresh produce! And, there’s lots of choice when it comes to different types of produce. This event is held on the first Tuesday of every month on the High Street, so it’s super accessible to just pop in on your lunch break and pick up something tasty. Plus, you’ll be supporting local producers at the same time, so what’s not to love? Furthermore, look out for the annual Christmas Farmer’s Market for extra festiveness!
