We love Guildford Surrey and its rich history
If you love history, there’s plenty to discover here in Guildford Surrey! It began as a Saxon village built by a ford of the River Wey. It then expanded to become a town in the 10th century. So, it’s safe to say that it has been around for quite some time. And, it has a rich history to match this. By the time of the Domesday Book in 1086, it was quite a large settlement with around 900 people, with the average Village only being home to about 150. Since then, the town has continued to expand into the modern-day, and currently has a population of around 150,000 people.
If you want to learn more about Guildford and its history, there are plenty of resources both online and in the town itself. Our favourite is the Guildford Museum and its beautiful location right near the Castle! It has a variety of permanent and changing exhibitions on offer, so it’s definitely worth a visit for anyone interested in history.
